UUPD 2.1 brings optional signed updates, our plugins are moving together on the latest updater, and we’ve got fresh releases to share.
Hi there,
Here’s a quick October update from Really Useful Plugins. This month we’ve focused on making plugin delivery more trustworthy, keeping our updater integrations consistent, and polishing the tools you use in WordPress every day.
01 / FEATURED RELEASE
UUPD 2.1.0: optional signed updates
Our Universal Update & Plugin Delivery (UUPD) release adds an optional extra layer of trust to the update process. When signing is enabled, the updater can verify who produced the release metadata and check the downloaded ZIP before installation.
Release highlights ✓ Ed25519 signatures for update metadata ✓ SHA-256 validation of downloaded packages ✓ Strict verification when signed updates are enabled ✓ Backwards compatibility with existing unsigned updates ✓ Signing and deployment tooling, with private keys kept out of distributed plugin code
Signed updates are opt-in, so this does not force existing integrations to change how they work overnight.
Our UUPD-powered plugins are now on the 2.1 updater
We’ve updated the plugins that use UUPD to the 2.1 updater generation. Bringing them onto the same version gives us a more consistent foundation for releases and future update improvements.
Two recent changelogs — RUP Changelogger 2.0.2 and Dashy for FluentCart 1.0.7 — explicitly record the UUPD 2.1 dependency and deployment-methodology updates.
03 / CHANGELOG IMPROVEMENTS
RUP Changelogger 2.0.3
The latest Changelogger release makes plain-text changelog parsing more flexible. It now accepts both the older Type: entries and bulleted styles such as * [Type] or * Type:. That means less reformatting when maintaining release notes.
We released Dashy for FluentCart in September, and October has already brought an updater refresh. The 1.0.7 release moves its UUPD dependency to version 2.1 and updates the deployment approach.
Dashy helps customise the FluentCart customer dashboard, including navigation and styling options for your own dashboard experience.
We’ll continue refining update delivery, compatibility and release tooling across our plugins. As always, the goal is simple: fewer distractions when you’re building and maintaining WordPress sites.
